Tourist in Sibiu

Sibiu, a tourist destination for any season!

Sibiu is one of Romania’s most important touristic and cultural destinations, exquisitely combining vibrant urbanity, romantic vibes, historic legacy, and charming countryside views.

Located in the heart of Romania, in South Transylvania, at the bottom of the Carpathian Mountains (at only 10 minutes away from its International Airport), Sibiu has a middle-size city pulse with astonishing nature on its doorstep.

Sibiu was founded in the 12th century by the Saxon colonists arrived in Transylvania from the central parts of Europe (German and Flemish areas). It was soon transformed into a strong medieval fortress and an important trade center. Though the city has been modernized over the centuries, its historic and cultural heritage remains almost untouched.

Sibiu is a relatively small city packed with historical buildings, large squares and lively terraces. It is ideal for either a weekend city break or a longer stay as there’s plenty to see and do in the whole region. The city can be experienced on foot with its old parks, cobbled squares and streets lined with shops, lovely cafés, and various restaurants with terraces. In the warm, sunny summer days you can enjoy a local craft beer, an amazing coffee or a glass of wine while witnessing great street performances, festivals, and concerts, Sibiu becoming an immense stage vibrating with events.

The city of Sibiu is surrounded in its southern part by picturesque mountain villages and traditional sheepfolds. The area known as Mărginimea Sibiului is the perfect destination for active adventurers who will enjoy hiking trails, bike rides, idyllic walks, delicious local gastronomy, and the delightful company of the locals. Adrenaline lovers can try the spectacular trekking trails in the rocky Făgăraş Mountains.

In the northern part of the area there lies the Transylvania Highlands, a beautiful area with scenic former Saxon villages, colorful meadows, and rich forests. Sibiu is a great destination for tourists who want to relax, enjoy the landscape and nature, connect with the local spirit, try off the beaten track tours and numerous new, amazing experiences.

Sibiu is a four-season destination, with an international airport located at just 5 km from the old town. It has a wide array of charming guesthouses and fancy boutique hotels, contemporary creative restaurants and cafes, shopping areas, easy access to the countryside areas. We support sustainability so we encourage our guests to use the Green Line transportation within the city and try the local products. In the countryside, we suggest walking tours, horse-back riding tours and bike rides – it will be an unforgettable experience!
