Starting April 2, 2025, all European citizens, including Romanian citizens traveling to the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland (UK), must hold an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA).
ETA is a pre-travel authorization required for entry into the UK for certain categories of travelers who are not required to obtain a visa. More information on exemptions from the ETA requirement can be found at: https://www.mae.ro/travel-conditions/3725.
Passengers are advised to apply at least 3 working days prior to their travel date to the UK.
The possession of a valid ETA will be verified for each passenger by airline representatives operating flights to UK destinations.
Important! Obtaining an ETA is mandatory before traveling to the UK, regardless of the purpose of the trip (visit, tourism, etc.), including transit through UK territory—even airport transit—if the passenger passes through border control (we recommend checking this aspect with your airline).
The electronic authorization is valid for 2 years. It can be used for multiple trips to the UK during its validity period or until the expiration of the travel document used for the application. If the passport expires, a new ETA application must be submitted using the newly issued passport.
At the time of introduction, the ETA fee is £10 for all age categories (including minors). The fee will increase to £16 starting April 9, 2025.
ETA can be obtained by using the UK ETA online application and following the steps indicated. The UK ETA app can be downloaded from the App Store (for iPhone devices) or Google Play (for Android devices).
