Sibiu enjoyed world-wide recognized success due to the project European Capital of Culture of 2007, being the first city in South-Eastern Europe to receive this title. Even before Romania adhered to the European Union, Sibiu was already being acknowledged as having an European character, from the point of view of its infrastructure, due to the fact that it is a cultural location and because of its European spirit. The Sibiu European Capital of Culture Program was a success, but the year 2007 was not the peak, but the engine of the city’s development which, since then, started on an upward trend in the field of culture, in the economical field, as well as in the touristic field and even in the area of services and the infrastructure, gaining more and more visibility.
As you may know Sibiu is a top cultural tourism and a business destination. Travel empire, Lonely Planet has revealed Sibiu in its top 10 cities to visit in 2016.
Furthermore, Sibiu region has submitted its candidacy file for the European Region of Gastronomy 2019 title.
